Chateau Gontier

Cargill has had a presence in Château-Gontier since 1993 and we employ around 30 people at the site.

The Château-Gontier plant is supplied by Cargill’s European sites with oil refined from sunflowers, high-oleic sunflowers, grape pips, peanuts and corn. It also produces traditional food oils as well as mixtures with recognised nutritional benefits, adapted to clients’ needs. In 2010, 60 million litres of edible oils were bottled in Château-Gontier in one-litre bottles, i.e. almost one bottle a year for each inhabitant of France. The site is involved in both large and medium-scale distribution.

In Chateau Gontier, Cargill produces:

Preparation and bottling of edible oils

Site history:

  • The site was founded in 1746 to produce oil. From 1898, production became industrial and linseed oil was replaced with peanut oil.
  • Cargill acquired the bottling site in 1993.
