Poultry products

Cargill is a leading supplier of poultry products to retail, food service and food manufacturing customers in both European and global markets. Its facility in Orleans processes poultry meat into consumer products primarily for fast-food providers.

Traceability is at the heart of their manufacturing process

Cargill Meats Europe follows a meticulous system of traceability, from hatchery to restaurant, and our efficiency and reliability are regularly tested and monitored. On the farm, each group of chickens is recorded in a system which traces the life of each animal (details of food consumed each day, veterinary checks...).

At the abattoir, each batch of chickens and each batch of prepared meat are carefully recorded. This traceable information is then used at Cargill’s production site, where the batches of meat are identified at each stage. At the end of the manufacturing process, a manufacturing code will automatically appear on the bags in which produce is packed. This code is also printed on the packing boxes. 80 checks are carried out each hour.

Practices which respect animals

During the time the chickens are reared, they are kept in conditions which respect their needs and the breeders monitor them constantly. They move about freely and they have easy access to fresh water and food dispensers. Cargill does not administer any antibiotic growth promoters, in accordance with European law.

With 250 employees at St Cyr-en-Val in the Loiret region, Cargill Meats Europe produces more that 30,000 tonnes of finished products each year. The Orleans plant supplies a large proportion of McDonalds’ European restaurants with Chicken McNuggetsTM. 3,000 restaurants are thus supplied in France and throughout Europe.
