Agricultural Risk Management

Risk management constitutes an essential activity for Cargill. It is a result of their expertise that Cargill has built on their success providing complete solutions for their customers and partners in the agricultural sector and the food processing industry.
In France, risk management covers a variety of services such as managing market risks, and managing logistical and food safety risks.

Market prices for farming, cereals and oilseeds are subject to wide fluctuations. It is difficult for farmers and industrial milk collectors and animal nutrition manufacturers to master this volatility and to protect their sales prices and production margins. For more than 10 years Cargill’s sales teams in France have been dedicated to training its customers to master these risk management tools. This approach allows us to search for innovative solutions which adapt to the customer’s risk profile and their individual needs. This also contributes to the economic performance of Cargill’s customers.

It is essential for every one of Cargill’s packing and distribution activities, that the deadlines and costs are tightly controlled and this constitutes a guarantee of security and trust for suppliers and customers.
Cargill carries out the majority of its cereal and oilseed packaging for river and rail transport through collection cooperatives and is heavily involved in developing these two modes of transport in Europe and in France.
Road transportation is very important to nearby distribution after leaving the factories and ports, and Cargill is involved in improving waiting times, setting up scheduled meetings, and also providing an easy and effective service for the transport company and the customer.

Cargill’s work and involvement all the way along the supply chain allows it, in a very singular way, to assess and monitor risks and to guarantee a high level of food safety for the products manufactured for its industrial and food processing customers.

The work of Cargill’s Product Quality Assurance teams, on both a national level in France and on a European level, involves collaborating with suppliers and customers, service suppliers, professional organisations and the authorities. We are involved in numerous fields of activity regarding preventing, improving and monitoring physical (cross-contamination), chemical (pesticides...), and bacteriologic (salmonellas...) risks.

Cargill takes an active part in defining standards and implementing Food Health and Safety legislation.
